Mayor And Council Meeting 5-21-13

Mayor And Council Meeting 5-21-13 It was a very busy night for the Mayor and Council. Delayed by important business in the Caucus Room, the meeting did not start until ten minutes after the scheduled time of 7:45. The meeting, officially opened by Mayor Rich LaBarbiera, started off with the Students In Government sponsored by the Paramus ELKS and overseen by Chip Morgan. After that came the swearing in of Captain Robert Guidetti of the Paramus Police Department. Then came a Presentation of New Jersey Healthy Town and Recognition of the Paramus High School Music Department including teachers and students. I've lived in Paramus for years seemed to be the main theme throughout these presentations.

Rep. Pascrell Introduces Legislation Requiring Stronger Standards for Youth Football Helmets

Bill Would Help Protect Young Athletes from Sports-Related Traumatic Brain Injuries

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force, was joined by Rep. Tom Rooney (R-FL) today in introducing bipartisan legislation aimed at protecting youth athletes from the dangers of sports-related traumatic brain injuries. The Youth Sports Concussion Act of 2013 would ensure that new and reconditioned football helmets for high school and younger players meet safety standards that address concussion risk and the needs of youth athletes. The bill also increases potential penalties for using false injury prevention claims to sell helmets and other sports equipment. Companion legislation was also introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM).

Rug Importers Donates To Area Charity And Gets Down To Business At New Location


The Rug Importers,newly located at 491 Route 17 South, Paramus, celebrated its grand re-opening day on May 11th by donating to the Children’s Aid & Family Services of Paramus. Syed Hussaini and Tariq Qari, owners, recently visited the organization’s headquarters on Robin Road and presented its president, Robert B. Jones with a check for $250. This organization’s mission is to protect, preserve and provide support for vulnerable children, young adults and elderly people with high-quality and innovative services that meet their social, educational and emotional needs. This donation will be used toward purchasing books for the early childhood daycare center there.

Legislation will complement federal aid by providing additional tax relief to businesses, individuals and municipalities affected by historic storm

WASHINGTON – In order to provide additional assistance to families and businesses struggling to rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) led a bipartisan coalition including Reps. Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), Michael Grimm (R-NY), John Larson (D-CT), Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Tom Reed (R-NY), Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Jon Runyan (R-NJ) in introducing legislation to provide tax relief to the victims of the devastating storm that caused widespread destruction throughout the Northeast. The Hurricane Sandy Tax Relief Act of 2013 (H.R. 2137), modeled after a similar bill passed into law in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, is aimed at providing tax relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy in areas designated as Federal Disaster Areas by the President.
