BERGEN COUNTY PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO ENGLEWOOD HOUSING AUTHORITY
ENGLEWOOD, N.J. – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco commends the staff from Bergen County's Community Transportation, Bergen County OEM, and the Bergen County Division of General Services for stepping up to assist the Englewood Housing Authority (EHA) after Hurricane Ida devastated the community and displaced over 150 seniors from an EHA senior housing building.
In the immediate aftermath, several residents took up temporary housing at CareOne assisted living facilities in Oradell and New Milford while longer-term accommodations could be arranged. On Tuesday, September 21, coordinated efforts from Bergen County's Community Transportation, Bergen County OEM, and the Bergen County Division of General Services transported over 40 seniors and their belongings from the CareOne facilities to a location much closer to home in the City of Englewood.
“When Bergen County gets the call, we respond. I commend the Bergen County staff for their efforts in orchestrating this logistical feat in moving over 40 residents safely and expeditiously to a location back in their home town,” said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. While the situation is by no means over and difficult days lie ahead, the County remains committed in its support of the Englewood Housing Authority and their residents through this process. I also must thank CareOne for their generosity and assistance by providing temporary shelter to residents displaced from the storm. Their efforts are truly admirable and I am proud to consider them a community partner here in Bergen County.”
This is the second time the County provided logistical assistance to the Englewood Housing Authority since Ida struck. Staff from Bergen County's Community of Transportation, Bergen County OEM, and the Bergen County Division of General Services previously aided with the initial evacuation of the senior housing building and transportation to CareOne and other temporary housing arrangements.
