Bergen’s New Semester Gets Students Back on Track

Main campus tours take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. and begin at the information desk located in the Pitkin Education Center.
PARAMUS, N.J. – With an entirely COVID-19-vaccinated or weekly-tested workforce, Bergen Community College has opened registration for its winter and spring classes and prepared for its most “normal” collegiate semester in almost two years.

Bergen required all faculty and staff to become vaccinated against COVID-19, or submit weekly negative test results, beginning Oct. 18. Coupled with the requirement for students to adhere to the same policy beginning Jan. 4, 2022 and other health and safety best practices, these measures will allow Bergen to offer a schedule featuring the most on-campus classes since the beginning of the pandemic. The College will also continue to offer a robust schedule of online courses and resources. Students enrolled exclusively in online courses do not need to submit proof of vaccination or weekly negative test, though they will not have access to on-campus resources. For more information on the College’s pandemic response, visit Bergen.edu/COVID19.

The winter semester, popular with students currently enrolled at other colleges and universities and home during December and January, provides the opportunity for enrollees to quickly earn credits. The intensive and accelerated semester runs from Dec. 27 through Jan. 14, 2022.

Meanwhile, Bergen’s spring semester will once again offer flexible start dates: Jan. 18, 2022, Feb. 8, 2022 and March 11, 2022. This flexibility allows students to enroll at Bergen on their schedule.

Bergen’s affordable tuition - even tuition-free for eligible students - and renowned faculty complement general education classes such as English Composition, General Biology and Statistics that remain ideal for transfer to many four-year colleges. Bergen offers more than 130 degree and certificate programs in areas such as aviation, criminal justice, dental hygiene, fashion design and hospitality. Students considering enrolling at the College should first file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Filing a FAFSA can help students become eligible for programs such as the state’s tuition-free Community College Opportunity Grant, which has now expanded to include households making up to $65,000 per year, and other tuition assistance programs. The College ranks No. 1 in New Jersey for associate degree graduates.

Online registration has opened for both the winter and spring semesters; students can register in-person beginning Nov. 10. To register, visit bergen.edu or the College’s locations in Paramus (400 Paramus Road), Lyndhurst (1280 Wall Street West) and Hackensack (355 Main Street). For more information, please call (201) 447-7200. Students currently enrolled at other colleges should visit bergen.edu/visiting for more information on taking winter classes. Main campus tours take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. and begin at the information desk located in the Pitkin Education Center.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
