The Community Chest Opens Annual Campaign to Support Nonprofit Agencies Delivering Critical Care Services to Our Neighbors in Need

(Eastern Bergen County, New Jersey; December 6, 2021) -- The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County's 2021-2022 Annual Campaign is underway raising funds for grants to award to nonprofit agencies responding to rising need for critical services, which are outpacing available resources.

As the holiday giving season opens, The Community Chest asks its neighbors to give locally.  For 88 years, the organization has led initiatives and supported nonprofits to make local communities stronger and benefit people in the area.

During the COVID-19 pandemic and the aftermath of Tropical Storm Ida, The Chest's critical funding supports operations and direct services for agencies' clients for health care, personal protective equipment, meals and supplies for people in need in 15 municipalities in eastern Bergen County.  "The public's support is vital, as the pandemic and Tropical Storm Ida's aftermath creates financial burdens for our neighbors, while expenses rise steeply for our grantees.  We encourage the public to give locally and support their neighbors in need experiencing hardships this year," said Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer, Executive Director, The Community Chest.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Each year, The Chest raises funds and allocates them in competitive grants to nonprofit agencies demonstrating the capacity to provide services to local citizens.  Coordinating and planning services are also provided in its communities, serving as a bridge between agencies and organizations and investing in the stability and quality of the service network.  The organization's Board of Managers implements a thorough process of screening, research, and monitoring to assure the funds raised are directed to the most worthy programs and the areas of greatest need.
