CarePlus NJ Awarded Behavioral Health Care and Human Services Accreditation from The Joint Commission for Ninth Consecutive Year

All CarePlus NJ behavioral health residences receive Behavioral Health Home Certification

Paramus, N.J. (October 26, 2022) – Care Plus NJ, Inc. (“CarePlus NJ”), a pioneer in integrated primary and behavioral health services for adults and children, announces it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval? for Behavioral Health Care and Human Services by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality care to the individuals it serves. CarePlus NJ has been accredited by The Joint Commission in Behavioral Health Care since 2013.

Additionally, CarePlus NJ was awarded the Behavioral Health Home Certification. This is an additional level of recognition on top of accreditation for organizations that act as a behavioral health home for individuals they serve. These organizations focus on key concepts of individual-centered, comprehensive, and coordinated care and services that support recovery and resilience philosophies. In 2014, CarePlus NJ was the first and only organization in the state to receive the Behavioral Health Home Certification and has consistently maintained its certification status.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a leading provider of integrated primary and behavioral health care in northern New Jersey, our longstanding accreditation with The Joint Commission is emblematic of our ongoing commitment to quality and performance across our entire organization,” said Joseph Masciandaro, President and CEO of CarePlus NJ. “Safety and quality are a priority across our community-based behavioral health centers and our residences, which meet critical housing, mental health support, care and supervision needs for individuals in our communities with severe and persistent mental illness.”

CarePlus NJ underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on July 22, 2022. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including those covering the care, treatment or services provided; environment of care; leadership; human resources; outcomes measurement; and rights and responsibilities of the individual served. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” said Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “Behavioral Health Home Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in safety and quality of care and we commend CarePlus NJ for its continuous efforts in these areas.”
