Retail Theft Crew - PARAMUS

The Paramus Police Department announces the arrest of T'kai Smokes-Davis 19 yoa, of West Orange, NJ, Nephihah Hamilton, 20 yoa of Newark, NJ and Andrew Estrada,18 yoa, of Flanders, NJ for Organized Retail Theft at the Ski Barn, 846 State Highway #17 north, Paramus.

On Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at approximately 12:07pm Paramus Police Communications received a call from a Ski Barn employee in reference to a shoplifting crew they observed in the store. An employee recognized the crew from a prior “hit and run” theft on November 16, 2022.

The theft crew had fled the store with approximately $12,000.00 of merchandise described as Moose Knuckles and Canada Goose jackets and parkas.

Paramus Police officer Jason Hrbek arrived on the seen and immediately took custody T’kai Smokes-Davis after he assaulted a Ski Barn employee.  The second subject, Nephihah Hamilton fled State Highway #17 north wearing all black and a surgical mask. Lieutenant Brian Linden assisted by officers from Ridgewood Police department observed Hamilton on East Glen Avenue. After a short foot pursuit, he was placed under arrest. The third subject later found to be Andrew Estrada aka: Anthony Thulin was observed fleeing State highway #17 south by Officer Tom Holden. After a foot pursuit into the Paramus Design Center Estrada was apprehended near the Panera and placed under arrest.

All subjects transported to Paramus Police headquarters for processing. While in custody at police headquarters Detective Nick Luciano identified Smokes-Davis, as an actor from a previous theft from the Off Fifth Avenue Outlet of 44 Michael Kors hand bags valued at $6,500. The defendant was subsequently charged with the additional charge of shoplifting.

2C:5-2-CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:5-1-CRIMINAL ATTEMPT SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:29-2A-RESISTING BY FLIGHT-DP

2C:39-4D- POSS OF A WEAPON FOR AN UNLAWFUL PURPOSE-3RD DEGREE CRIME (Brass knuckles)

 

DEFENDANT NEPHIHAH HAMILTON WAS CHARGED WITH THE FOLLOWING:

2C:20-11B(2)-SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:5-2-CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:5-1-CRIMINAL ATTEMPT SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:29-2A-RESISTING BY FLIGHT-DP

 

DEFENDANT ANDREW ESTRADA WAS CHARGED WITH THE FOLLOWING:

2C:20-11B(2)-SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:5-2-CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT SHOPLIFTING-2ND DEGREE

2C:5-1-CRIMINAL ATTEMPT-SHOPLIFTING-2nd degree

2C:29-2A-RESISTING BY FLIGHT-DP

2C:29-3(4)-FALSE INFO TO L.E. OFFICER-DP

On a further note Detective Luciano did an excellent job identifying defendant, SMOKES-DAVIS, as an actor from a $6,500 handbag theft (22-37526) that was previously closed. The defendant was subsequently charged with an additional charge of shoplifting and during the interview provided additional information on two other suspects from the “Loyal” shoplifting crew. All Defendants were remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing.

These charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
