Felician University's School of Business & Information Sciences Captures Power of Radio

RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician University’s School of Business & Information Sciences (SOBIS) is building momentum across the region for a new podcast series entitled, Elevating Education. SOBIS Assistant Professor, Dr. Joy de los Reyes, is host of this innovative podcast produced by RadioFelician under the direction of radio station manager, Ed Robinson.

Launched in March 2022, Elevating Education highlights best practices in academics through interviews with educational experts who explore cutting-edge leadership ideas and the changing landscape of learning.

Featured in the latest episode was Felician University Board of Trustee member, Monique Carkum-Edwards, CEO of Gravitas Executive Consulting and Principal Learning Partner at Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning. She offered listeners her advice on motivation, positioning, and gender in the workplace. Carkum-Edwards advised, “The best time to develop relationships is before you need them. Communication is interpreted in the context of relationships.”

This episode and others can be found on Spotify, Audacy, and the RadioFelician webpage www.radiofelician.com. Other guests have included Jon Bergmann, one of the pioneers of the Flipped Classroom Movement. He is leading the worldwide adoption of Flipped Learning through the Flipped Learning Global Initiative (FLGI), working with governments, schools, corporations, and education non-profits to bring active learning to the world. Jon is the author of ten books, including the bestselling book, “Flip Your Classroom,” which has been translated into 13 languages.

Dr. de los Reyes’ background includes ten years of corporate work and fourteen years in higher education. She uses her experience to bridge the gap from learning to working and her students are actively engaged in that journey. During the Fall semester, she brought her Fundamentals of Marketing classes to the radio station where groups of students prepared and recorded 30-second commercials in the studios. They picked a product, identified the objective and tone, and then created the copy.

“I brought them to experience true engagement, creativity, and application of the marketing concepts around advertising. As we always try to seek innovative ways to engage our students, I was so happy to witness everyone come to life, get creative, and have fun while learning!” Dr. de los Reyes said. Students were thrilled with this experience and Dr. de los Reyes was ecstatic with the impact it made.

The School of Business & Information Sciences places a strong emphasis on blending the corporate world with the academic. Courses help develop innovative and entrepreneurial leadership skills, management skills, real-world problem solving, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.
