(HACKENSACK, NJ)- On Wednesday, January 4th the Bergen County Board of Commissioners held their annual Reorganization Meeting to swear in three newly re-elected Commissioners.

Commissioner Thomas J. Sullivan, also President of IBEW Local 164, was elected the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, with Germaine M. Ortiz as Vice Chairwoman and Dr. Joan M. Voss as Chair Pro Tempore.

Commissioners Mary J. Amoroso (D – Mahwah), Germaine M. Ortiz (D – Emerson), and Thomas J. Sullivan (D – Montvale) were officially sworn into their third full terms in office by Governor Phil Murphy after the November vote tallies were announced by Bergen County Clerk John Hogan. Governor Murphy was joined by Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, U.S. District Court Judge Julien X. Neals, and Senator Paul Sarlo who all participated the ceremony.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to once again represent the residents of our great county,” said Commissioner Chairman Tom Sullivan. “This year will be about infrastructure—working to improve our roads, bridges, culverts, and most importantly, moving the needle on the much-needed Route 17 bottleneck project. My colleagues and I are thrilled with the accomplishments we have had thus far but we are looking forward to building on that success by continuing to improve the quality of life for people that live and work in Bergen County.”

“It brings me great joy to return for another term and serve as Vice Chairwoman of the Board,” said Vice Chairwoman Germaine Ortiz. “In the upcoming year I look forward to advocating for Bergen County families and continuing our great work with Bergen Community College and our incredible technical schools.”

“I am so thankful for the continued support of our community here in Bergen County,” said Commissioner Mary Amoroso. “I remain committed to serving all Bergen County residents to the best of my ability, while working to lower our carbon footprint and safeguard our resources for future generations.”
