EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR BIKES & SCOOTERS ON NY WATERWAY

October 19, 2023 – As part of its commitment to encourage environmentally-friendly travel in NY and NJ, NY Waterway has eliminated its surcharge fee for bikes and scooters.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for our passengers to include bikes and scooters in their travels,” said NY Waterway CEO Armand Pohan. “This supports our mission of supporting environmentally friendly transportation in the region.”

"This step to eliminate the bicycle and scooter surcharges on NY Waterway, is a great way to encourage even more of our residents to take advantage of environmentally friendly and healthy ways of commuting," said Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. "The move will certainly be a great benefit to the residents of Hoboken, already a bike-friendly community, making travel across the Hudson River more economical, convenient and hassle-free." 

“Over the summer, we decided to subsidize the fees for bikes to and from Jersey City to help make ferry service more affordable to our residents, and so we are encouraged that NY Waterway wants to make it as easy as possible for passengers to include bikes and scooters in their travels by eliminating the surcharge fee at every ferry terminal,” said Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop. “Eliminating the surcharge fee on bikes and scooters is also a worthwhile boost to the environment as it will hopefully encourage more people to use environmentally friendly transportation in the region.” 

“We’re pleased to see NY Waterway using this opportunity to benefit riders across New York and New Jersey,” said Edgewater Mayor Michael McPartland.

“We have a very active biking community here in Fort Lee and many of our residents rely on NY Waterway as a safe and reliable mode of transportation to and from NYC,” said Fort Lee City Council President Paul Yoon.  “We are thrilled that our residents can now travel with their bikes and scooters at no charge.”
