Valley Health System Opens Compounding Pharmacy in Paramus, New Jersey
PARAMUS, NJ, August 21, 2024 – Valley Health System is pleased to expand its pharmaceutical offerings with the opening of a compounding pharmacy. A compounding pharmacy prepares custom prescriptions tailored to the specific medication needs for both humans and animals.
Compounding medications are custom-made drugs that are tailored to a patient’s needs by combining, mixing, or altering ingredients. These are often prescribed when a medication or dose is not commercially available, if a patient has an allergy to an ingredient in a commercial drug product, or if a mixture of medications is needed in one dosage. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
“We are proud to expand our pharmaceutical offerings for our patients and community,” said Ronald Krych, Director of Pharmacy for Valley Health System. “At Valley, we now have three retail pharmacies located in The Valley Hospital, The Luckow Pavilion, and Valley Health LifeStyles Fitness Center, as well as a specialty pharmacy and a compounding pharmacy inside the Bolger Medical Arts Building in Paramus. This ensures that our patients can obtain the medications needed to live their healthiest lives.”
Examples of areas that may benefit from compounding medications are pain management ailments, including arthritis and fibromyalgia; pediatric conditions, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heart conditions, or urinary retention, where it may be difficult to administer a tablet to an infant or child. Veterinary medications such as creams, chewable treats, and capsules are also common compounded medications.
Compound medications can also be beneficial for a range of conditions women may encounter, such as vaginal dryness, menopause, and yeast infection. Endocrinology conditions such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and adrenal insufficiency are also commonly treated using these custom-made medications.
The Valley Health Compounding Pharmacy is located inside the Bolger Medical Arts Building at 970 Linwood Ave in Paramus, New Jersey. The compounding pharmacy accepts e-scripts, faxed prescriptions, and verbal orders.
