Bergen County Recognizes Hunger Action Month and Veterans of Foreign Wars

HACKENSACK, NJ – During its September 18, 2024, work session, the Bergen County Board of Commissioners and County Executive Jim Tedesco recognized the outstanding efforts of the Bergen County Office of Food Security and local food pantries in combating hunger, particularly in honor of Hunger Action Month. Certificates of commendation were presented to Patrick Fallon, Director of the Office of Food Security, and his team, along with representatives from several local food pantries.

"With a 23% increase in demand for food assistance this year, it is more important than ever to support our local food pantries and volunteer our time," said Commissioner Tracy Zur. "These organizations are doing incredible work to assist thousands of our neighbors in need."

The Board also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, presenting a proclamation to celebrate their 125-year legacy. VFW District 2 Commander Bruce Young, along with fellow members, accepted the proclamation, honoring their dedication to serving veterans and advocating for their rights.

"The VFW has had a profound impact on veterans' rights, from the creation of the Veterans Administration to modern legislation like the Honoring Our PACT Act," said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. "Their work is a testament to the sacrifices made by our veterans, and we are proud to recognize their continued service."

Additionally, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) were honored with a proclamation from the County Executive and Board of Commissioners in celebration of VFW Day.
