Atlas and Starling Bring Luxury Residences, Dynamic Amenities and Vibrant Community Retail to Thriving Jersey City Neighborhood

JERSEY CITY, NJ, September 16th, 2024 -- Jersey City officials, business leaders, and other dignitaries gathered on September 12th for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially welcome two standout rental buildings, Atlas and Starling, to the city's rapidly evolving Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood.

JERSEY CITY MAYOR STEVEN FULOP JOINS DEVELOPERS FOR RIBBON CUTTING MARKING COMPLETION OF TWO NEW RENTAL BUILDINGS IN BERGEN-LAFAYETTEJersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, City Council President Joyce E. Watterman, and Ward A Councilwomen Denise Ridley joined principals from Alpine Residential and Fields Grade to celebrate the completion of Atlas, a 24-story, 169-unit building located at 270 Johnston Avenue -- the tallest building in Bergen-Lafayette. The event also highlighted Starling, a boutique collection of 39 luxury residences at 66 Monitor Street, developed by the same partners.

Mayor Fulop commented: “I visited this project a couple months ago and right away I was amazed by the views here and the potential for this part of Jersey City... Anybody that drives by these buildings would say it is a huge asset and benefit for this entire community... Think about what changes have happened underneath us in this Bergen-Lafayette area. You see more coffee shops or restaurants or people on the streets that didn't exist four or five years ago... Thank you to Alpine Residential and Fields Grade and the entire team for their limitless commitment and dedication to this city.”

Atlas and Starling are key components of The Bergen Lafayette Collection, a series of mixed-use properties from Alpine Residential and Fields Grade that are infusing new energy into the neighborhood. The Collection will ultimately feature nearly 1,000 apartments across five mixed-use buildings. In addition to offering stylish living spaces and dynamic amenities, these buildings have introduced a vibrant array of community-focused dining and retail options, including the acclaimed Roxy restaurant, Eggs Up breakfast café, premium Japanese donut and bubble tea shop MochiDough/BoberTea, and Cheeky’s “New Orleans-style” sandwiches.

"Our commitment to Bergen-Lafayette began in 2018 when we recognized the neighborhood’s untapped potential as a hidden residential gem," said William Rosato, Managing Partner of Alpine Residential. "With the introduction of Atlas and Starling, we now have five thriving rental properties in our Bergen-Lafayette portfolio, complemented by an exciting mix of retailers. None of this would have been possible without the leadership of Mayor Fulop and his administration, who have championed development in emerging neighborhoods west of the waterfront like Bergen-Lafayette."

"We are grateful to have Mayor Fulop join us today in celebrating this special occasion," added Rob Caulfield, a principal at Jersey City-based Fields Grade. "Bergen-Lafayette has all the essential elements of a desirable residential neighborhood -- new homes, retail, excellent access to downtown Jersey City, and nearby open spaces like Liberty State Park. The success of Atlas and Starling clearly shows that residents have embraced the urban lifestyle experience we are offering here."

Atlas

Designed by MHS Architecture and featuring interiors by GRT Architecture, Atlas draws inspiration from the neighborhood's post-industrial roots while engaging with the Jersey City waterfront and the New York City skyline.

The striking building features a mix of studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom residences with oversized windows with complimentary treatments frame stunning views, while luxury plank flooring, custom modular closets, in-home washer and dryer, remote thermostats, and smart lock entry doors enhance the living experience. Kitchens feature Quartz countertops, full-height tiled backsplashes, and stainless-steel Energy Star? appliances. Well-appointed baths are adorned with Quartz countertops, full-height tiled showers and tubs and Kohler fixtures.  Select homes have double vanities.

Many apartments feature private balconies that extend the living spaces outdoors while maximizing uninterrupted views of the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Harbor, Liberty State Park, and the Manhattan skyline.

Residents at Atlas enjoy a wide range of amenities, including concierge service, a state-of-the-art fitness center equipped with Cross-Fit and cardio machines, co-working spaces with private offices, a demonstration kitchen, community room, and a Sky Lounge on the 24th floor with stunning Manhattan skyline views. The outdoor roof deck features grilling stations, dining areas, and a plunge pool. The pet-friendly, smoke-free property also offers on-site parking, bike storage, and TULU, an on-demand smart rental store for high-quality household and lifestyle products.

Jersey City Council President Joyce E. Watterman, said: “For a project like this to happen you need partnership. The government can't do it alone. You always need private partnerships to get it done. I want to thank you for the partnership. We don't take it for granted.  Let's continue to do great things in neighborhoods that we can revitalize because the people deserve it.”

“Every time I do one of these ribbon cuttings, I am impressed,” commented Ward A Councilwomen Denise Ridley.  “I want to say thank you for taking the time to looking into the Bergen-Lafayette area and making sure that you invest here.”

Starling

Designed by GRT Architects, Starling seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with historic charm, preserving the century-old building's façade that once adorned the site. The restored exterior is complemented by a dramatic double-height lobby featuring reclaimed trusses and wood finishes salvaged from the original structure, repurposed throughout the property’s common spaces.

The boutique collection at Starling offers studios to three-bedroom luxury apartments featuring oversized windows that bathe the living spaces in natural light. Designer appointments include luxury plank flooring, custom modular closets, in-home washers and dryers, smart lock entry, and remote thermostats. Gourmet kitchens are equipped with stainless steel Energy Star appliances, Quartz countertops with a waterfall edge, Kohler fixtures, under-cabinet lighting, and full-height tiled backsplashes. Sleek bathrooms feature Kohler fixtures, full-height tiled baths and showers, and soft-close cabinetry. Select homes offer outdoor terraces.

Starling’s amenities foster a sense of tranquility, wellness, and ease. Residents enjoy a rooftop lounge, outdoor dining and seating area, state-of-the-art fitness center, co-working spaces, and a golf simulator. Services include a virtual doorman, package room, bike storage, access to electric scooters, and TULU, an on-demand smart rental store offering high-quality household and lifestyle products.

Both Atlas and Starling bridge the gap between real estate and the art community with permanent collections that reflect the vibrancy and history of urban life in one of New Jersey’s cultural epicenters. The art collections, thoughtfully curated to connect with the local Jersey City landscape, enhance the living experience for residents.

South Oxford Management, Alpine’s affiliated management company, is directing the leasing and management of The Bergen Lafayette Collection. More information on the properties can be found at www.bergenlafayettecollection.com.
