The Valley Hospital Launches DNV-Certified Therapy Program for Advanced Heart Failure Care

Paramus, NJ, January 8, 2025 – The Valley Hospital is proud to announce the launch of our Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Therapy program, offering an advanced treatment option for patients diagnosed with heart failure. This program has received LVAD certification from DNV, the independent assurance and risk management provider.

A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is a surgically implanted mechanical heart pump designed to support patients whose hearts can no longer pump sufficient blood to meet their body's needs. The Valley Hospital's heart failure surgeons are currently implanting the Abbott HeartMate 3? LVAD, an FDA-approved LVAD. The HeartMate 3 has demonstrated substantial improvements in patient survival rates and quality of life, according to Abbott.

An LVAD is suitable for patients with congestive heart failure and depressed left ventricular function – weak heart pumping ability. There are two pathways a patient with a long-term LVAD will take – some will go on to receive a heart transplant, and others will live with the device for the rest of their life.

"Introducing the LVAD program at The Valley Hospital represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing the highest level of care for heart failure patients," said Paul Burns, MD, Director of Heart Failure Surgery at The Valley Hospital. "By implanting LVADs, we are offering a technology that enhances the quality of life for our patients. We are excited to bring this advanced therapy to our community."

“In their new program for left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy, The Valley Hospital is showing, from the start, great commitment to care quality for heart failure patients requiring this kind of solution,” said Kelly Proctor, President of Healthcare, Supply Chain and Product Assurance at DNV. “We believe in continuous improvement and innovation in care delivery, and we’re excited to see how The Valley Hospital will be able to guide even more patients towards improved outcomes and quality of life through their LVAD program.”

For individuals with end-stage heart failure, LVAD therapy offers several benefits over medical therapy alone, including improved organ function, symptom relief, enhanced physical activity, improved longevity, and the opportunity for at-home recovery.
