BERGEN COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SWEAR IN TWO RE-ELECTED COMMISSIONERS AND SHERIFF, NEW LEADERSHIP TEAM ELECTED FOR 2025

(HACKENSACK, NJ) – On Thursday, January 2, 2025, the Bergen County Board of Commissioners held their annual Reorganization Meeting, swearing in two re-elected Commissioners, Tracy Silna Zur and Steven Tanelli, along with Sheriff Anthony Cureton. The Board also elected its 2025 leadership team, marking the beginning of another year dedicated to serving the residents of Bergen County.
 

Commissioner Steven Tanelli (D – North Arlington) was officially sworn into his fifth term in office by Senator Paul Sarlo, while Commissioner Tracy Silna Zur (D – Franklin Lakes) took her fourth oath of office, administered by County Executive James Tedesco. Sheriff Anthony Cureton (D – Englewood) was sworn in by NJ District Judge Jamel Semper.

The meeting featured remarks from New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, who delivered the keynote address, along with Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. Distinguished guests included state legislators and local officials.

"I am honored to continue to serve the residents of Bergen County," said Commissioner Tracy Silna Zur. "As we move into 2025, our focus remains on delivering efficient, effective and compassionate government - strengthening our community and ensuring every resident has access to the opportunities they deserve. Together, we will continue to build a brighter future for Bergen County."

“Serving Bergen County is both a privilege and a responsibility I hold dear to my hear,” said Commissioner Steven Tanelli. “I am proud of the progress we’ve made and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to address the needs of our residents and improve our county’s infrastructure, safety, and quality of life.”

“It is an incredible honor to be entrusted once again with serving as Sheriff of Bergen County,” said Sheriff Anthony Cureton. “I remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, fostering trust between law enforcement and the community, and upholding the values that make Bergen County a great place to live.”

During the meeting, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously nominated and elected their leadership team for 2025:

            •           Chairwoman: Commissioner Mary J. Amoroso (D – Mahwah)

            •           Vice Chair: Commissioner Steven Tanelli (D – North Arlington)

            •           Chair Pro Tempore: Commissioner Dr. Joan M. Voss (D – Fort Lee)

In her remarks, Chairwoman Mary J. Amoroso expressed gratitude to her colleagues and shared her vision for the year ahead.
