Bergen County Presents $119,571 Open Space Trust Fund Check to Borough of Demarest for Duck Pond Improvements

HACKENSACK– The Bergen County Board of Commissioners, alongside Open Space Trust Fund Executive Director Ken Aloisio, proudly presented a $119,571 check to the Borough of Demarest for the reconstruction of the gazebo walkway, lighting, and stairway at the beloved Demarest Duck Pond.

The funding, awarded through the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund, will support critical upgrades to improve accessibility, safety, and aesthetics at one of Demarest’s most cherished community spaces.

“Investing in public parks and open spaces enhances the quality of life for residents and strengthens our communities,” said Commissioner Germaine Ortiz. “We’re proud to support Demarest’s efforts to preserve and improve the Duck Pond for generations to come.”

“Bergen County is proud to partner with our local municipalities to protect and enhance the public spaces that make our communities special,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco. “The Duck Pond is more than just a scenic spot—it’s a gathering place for families, neighbors, and visitors. Through the Open Space Trust Fund, we’re making sure places like this remain safe, accessible, and vibrant for years to come.

Mayor and Council members of Demarest were on hand to receive the check and express their gratitude for the county’s continued support.

“This funding will allow us to restore and improve a key part of the Duck Pond, making it safer and more enjoyable for residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Brian Bernstein “We thank the County Commissioners and the Open Space Trust Fund for recognizing the importance of this project to our community.”

The Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund has awarded millions in funding since its inception to preserve open space, improve recreational facilities, and enhance environmental stewardship across the county.
