TEDESCO, COMMISSIONERS PRESENT $136K IN OPEN SPACE FUNDING TO BOROUGH OF LITTLE FERRY
Funding will support the conversion of the old field hockey court into a pickleball court, located at Losen Slote Creek Park
(LITTLE FERRY, N.J.) – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, joined by Commissioners Tracy Zur and Mary Amoroso, recently presented a ceremonial check to the Mayor and Council of Little Ferry for $136,548 from the 2024 Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund (OSTF). The grant will fund the installation of a new pickleball court at Losen Slote Creek Park, replacing the borough’s deteriorated field hockey court.
The new court is part of a broader initiative to revitalize recreational spaces across Bergen County and provide residents with modern, accessible amenities that promote active lifestyles and community engagement.
“These investments reflect our commitment to enhancing public spaces that serve the evolving needs of our communities,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco. “Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and we’re proud to support Little Ferry in creating a vibrant new space for residents to gather, play, and stay active.”
“Investing in our parks means investing in the health and vitality of our residents,” said Commissioner Tracy Zur. “This new pickleball court will provide the Little Ferry community with a space where people of all ages can come together to play, connect, and enjoy time outdoors. I am proud that through the Open Space Trust Fund, we are able to support projects that enhance quality of life and strengthen community bonds across Bergen County.”
“I want to thank County Executive Tedesco and the Board of Commissioners for awarding Little Ferry this Open Space grant,” said Mayor Mauro Raguseo. With their support, we’ll be able to add a new pickleball court giving our residents another way to stay active and enjoy our community’s recreational spaces.”
The funding comes from the 2024 OSTF grant cycle, which continues to support municipalities in preserving and improving open spaces, parks, and recreational facilities throughout Bergen County.
The Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) guides the County’s open space protection and preservation and helps the County to appropriately guide development away from areas that should be preserved. The OSRP was prepared in conformance with the State’s Green Acres Program, allowing the County to apply for enhanced open space funding and qualifying the County for larger acquisition and park development grants.
