Valley Health System Introduces Advanced Cardiac PET-CT Imaging, Elevating Heart Disease Diagnosis

PARAMUS, NJ, October 2 – Valley Health System is proud to announce the launch of advanced cardiac positron emission tomography – computed tomography (PET-CT) imaging at Valley Health System – Ridgewood Campus, enhancing the diagnosis and management of heart disease.

This leading-edge technology enhances Valley’s ability to evaluate myocardial blood flow – the rate at which blood moves through the heart muscle – offering unprecedented precision in detecting both large artery blockages and microvascular dysfunction, a condition affecting the heart’s smallest vessels that often goes undetected with conventional imaging.

Compared to traditional nuclear stress test (SPECT - single-photon emission computed tomography), cardiac PET offers:

Superior image resolution for more accurate diagnosis, Quantitative blood flow measurements, enabling early detection of coronary artery disease – a narrowing of the coronary arteries, Lower radiation exposure, improving patient safety, and Shorter scan times, enhancing comfort and accessibility.

“Unlike standard stress testing or SPECT imaging, PET-CT allows us to see both the forest and the trees,” said Himanshu Gupta, MD, Director of Cardiac Imaging for Valley Medical Group. “It not only identifies major coronary artery disease but also uncovers subtle microvascular issues that can be missed with other tests. This means earlier, more accurate diagnoses and improved outcomes for our patients.”

Valley’s PET-CT scanner, developed by Siemens Healthineers, represents the latest in non-invasive cardiac imaging. Its advanced capabilities support more personalized treatment planning and reinforce Valley’s commitment to delivering world-class cardiovascular care.

With the addition of cardiac PET-CT, Valley Health System continues to lead in innovation, offering patients and referring physicians the most advanced tools available for the early detection and management of heart disease.

Valley Health System – Ridgewood Campus is located at 223 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood, New Jersey. To learn more about cardiovascular imaging at Valley, please visit ValleyHealth.com/CardiacImaging.
