The Valley Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Transcatheter Heart Valve Repair and Replacement by the American College of Cardiology
PARAMUS, NJ, March 11, 2026 – The Valley Hospital has once again been awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification from The American College of Cardiology (ACC) for its demonstrated expertise and commitment to treating patients receiving transcatheter valve repair and replacement procedures. This recertification was given based on the evaluation of Valley’s ability to meet standards for multidisciplinary teams, formalized training, shared decision-making, and registry performance.
The Valley Hospital was initially awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification in 2023.
The ACC’s Transcatheter Valve Certification is an external review and certification process that pairs with established national clinical databases to monitor patient safety and real-world outcomes related to transcatheter valve therapies. Transcatheter valve therapies are minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures used to repair or replace diseased heart valves. Participation in established national clinical databases such as the STS/ACC TVT Registry is required for hospitals interested in achieving Transcatheter Valve Certification.
The Structural Heart Program at Valley addresses structural heart disease, or defects in the heart’s valves or chambers. Due to technological advances, complex structural heart disease can be treated using minimally invasive transcatheter valve therapies, which typically translates to safer and more effective patient care.
Due to the complex nature of heart disease, it can be challenging for patients to understand all the decisions that need to be made. A team approach can help by bringing together a variety of heart specialists to assist patients in making appropriate decisions. This is particularly beneficial for patients who have structural heart disease plus other related heart conditions that make treatment more complex.
“We are proud to have received this recertification from the ACC. Our structural heart team provides patient-focused care tailored to each patient’s specific needs, using leading-edge, minimally invasive treatment modalities, including transcatheter aortic valve repair (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), and transcatheter-edge-to-edge repair (TEER) procedures,” said Rajiv Tayal, MD, MPH, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Structural Heart Program at The Valley Hospital. “Our team keeps up with the latest advances in the field to make sure patients receive up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines and care.”
“At The Valley Heart and Vascular Institute, our multidisciplinary team – including interventionalists, structural heart specialists, interventional cardiologists, general cardiologists, radiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and advanced practice nurses – is deeply committed to working together to deliver the highest quality outcomes for our patients,” said Suneet Mittal, MD, Chair of the Cardiovascular Service Line for Valley Health System. “This certification reflects the strength of that collaboration and our shared dedication to excellence.”
Hospitals that achieve Transcatheter Valve Certification learn best practices for implementing evidence-based medicine to support patient-centered decision-making. These hospitals track key performance metrics to better identify opportunities for improvement and patient safety.
“The Valley Hospital has demonstrated its commitment to providing northern New Jersey with excellent heart care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, Chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award The Valley Hospital with Transcatheter Valve Certification.”
The ACC offers United States and international hospitals, like The Valley Hospital, access to a comprehensive suite of cardiac accreditation services designed to optimize patient outcomes. These services are focused on all aspects of cardiac care, including transcatheter valve therapies.
