THE CAFÉ AT JOURNAL SQUARED DEBUTS NEW “AFTER HOURS” FOOD & DRINK MENU
Dynamic Café Inside Journal Squared Lobby Now Offers Evening Hours Three Days a Week
JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Café at Journal Squared, Presented by Almost Home, announced today that it has launched a new “After Hours” menu that will further its goal of providing a vibrant, community-centric gathering place inside the lobby of Journal Squared.
The After Hours menu includes select beers and wines as well as comfort food favorites such as loaded nachos, loaded fries, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Highlights include a Thai chili fried chicken sandwich, a cowboy burger with BBQ sauce, cheddar, bacon, and fried onions, four different flavors of chicken wings, and four different add-ons that can turn the loaded nachos from a snack into a satisfying meal. The new menu is served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The After Hours menu complements the café’s popular daytime menu, which consists of premium coffee, playful espresso drinks, matcha, baked goods, wraps and salads. The café will switch over to the After Hours menu at 4 p.m., although coffee and espresso drinks will remain available until close.
The café is open seven days a week. The updated hours are now 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Café at Journal Squared is operated by Almost Home, a New Jersey-based brand known for its cafes, coffeehouses and coffee carts, with 10 locations across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Founder Robert Doran partnered with Journal Squared developer KRE to create a vibrant public café inside the lobby that serves as a gathering place for residents, PATH commuters and locals.
“Ever since we opened The Café at Journal Squared last year our goal was to eventually expand the menu and the operating hours,” Mr. Doran said. “KRE had the vision to build a beautiful, welcoming café right inside of its lobby and we could immediately see that this was the perfect setting for a place to hang out in the evening as well. We welcome our friends and neighbors in Journal Square to come relax, socialize and try our new menu.”
KRE President Jonathan Kusher said creating a lively lobby with a public café as its centerpiece was one of KRE’s main goals when developing Journal Squared.

Located at 595 Pavonia Avenue, The Café at Journal Squared is an amenity for Journal Squared residents and the entire Journal Square neighborhood, a place where people can come work, eat, have a conversation, and build social connections with their neighbors. There is seating for more than 50 guests, including bar seating, tables and chairs, comfy sofas, and playful rope swing chairs.
The café is part of KRE’s larger vision to establish Journal Square as a vibrant cultural and community hub. The three-tower development includes 36,000 square feet of street-level retail space anchored by Magnolia Landing, a public plaza at the PATH station that hosts year-round community programming. Other retail tenants include Whealth Kitchen, a farm-to-table eatery, Food Story Natural Market, the neighborhood’s first supermarket, and Cangiano’s Marketplace, a gourmet Italian market and deli.
