Habitat Bergen Launches Safe at Home Critical Repairs Program with $25,000 Grant from NVE Bank Community Foundation

Bergen County, NJ — September 2026 — Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County has officially launched Safe at Home, a new critical repairs program serving seniors and individuals with physical disabilities in Bergen County, with support from a $25,000 grant from the NVE Bank Community Foundation, a subsidiary of ION Bank.

The grant helped Habitat Bergen establish the program and begin serving local homeowners. Safe at Home accepted its first round of applications through the end of August. Applications are now being reviewed, home assessments have begun, and the first repairs are expected to begin in October.

Safe at Home is designed to help eligible Bergen County homeowners maintain safe, accessible homes and greater independence. The program serves seniors age 55 and older and individuals with documented physical disabilities.

Safe at Home expands Habitat Bergen’s work to preserve existing housing while addressing critical repair and accessibility needs for residents who want to remain safely in their homes.

Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County extends its sincere appreciation to the NVE Bank Community Foundation for helping make the launch of Safe at Home possible.
