Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology Demonstrations to Be Held Throughout New Jersey

Events Hosted by Assembly Democrats Herb Conaway, Andrew Zwicker, Gordon Johnson, Daniel Benson & Robert Karabinchak

(TRENTON) – New Jersey residents, business owners, and officials interested in learning more about hydrogen fuel cells (HFC) will soon have the opportunity to see this environmentally-friendly technology in action at upcoming events hosted by Assembly Democrats Herb Conaway, Andrew Zwicker, Gordon Johnson, Daniel Benson and Robert Karabinchak. An HFC-powered bus will be visiting several locations throughout the state, giving event attendees the chance to examine and learn more about the technology.

After Assemblyman Conaway reached out to a transit authority from Ohio, they agreed to bring their bus to New Jersey as part of their ongoing ‘Borrow a Bus’ program. Attendees will be able to examine the zero-emission vehicle, ask questions about the technology, and review data the authority has collected via its fleet of HFC buses. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ride on the HFC-powered bus.

“Clean energy is no longer a futuristic idea. We have what we need to begin protecting our planet today, with technology such as hydrogen fuel cells,” said Assemblymen Conaway (D-Burlington), Zwicker (D-Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon), Johnson (D-Bergen), Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex) and Karabinchak (D-Middlesex). “These events will offer our state the chance to see this technology in action and understand the many benefits of powering our vehicles – and more – with a reliable and environmentally-friendly energy source.”

Hydrogen fuel cells are devices that generate electricity via hydrogen and oxygen, creating only water and heat as byproducts – making them a form of clean energy. HFC-powered vehicles are zero-emission vehicles that do not need to be plugged in to recharge and can refuel as fast as a gasoline-powered vehicle.

These vehicles meet required safety standards, produce less noise than the average gas-powered vehicle, and have a similar range as gas-powered vehicles. Overall, HFC-powered vehicles can improve the quality of transportation for passengers while protecting air quality in their communities.

The events are open to everyone and will take place on the following dates at the following locations:
