Coca-Cola Serves Up Student Scholarship

PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College sociology student Yoav Aharon, of Fair Lawn, will receive a $1,000 scholarship as one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa honor society members named a 2022 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. More than 1,300 students applied for the scholarship.

“I'm absolutely honored to have been recognized for my accomplishments and endeavors through this highly prestigious award,” he said. “I deeply thank those who have supported and assisted me in my leadership and educational efforts.”

“We are very proud of Yoav and all our students who have been recognized by PTK with scholarships,” Bergen PTK and Honors Coordinator Anna Gergen said. “PTK provides excellent opportunities for students who demonstrate strong leadership, scholarship, service, and fellowship, as Yoav has done with this award.”

Among his activities on campus, Aharon serves as chief justice and chair of the academic committee of the student government association. He also leads the College Democrats at Bergen as president.

“Leadership is the ultimate mechanism for uniting and guiding people towards a common goal,” he said. “It’s a practice that I faithfully execute every day.”

Aharon completed a research internship for John Hopkins University this month. He presented his research on social anxiety disorders at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium, a national academic conference in Connecticut in July. Aharon expects to graduate in May 2023 and aspires to attend graduate school to conduct research in the social science field.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. The funds provided by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation not only aid college completion, but also give students the opportunity to engage in PTK programs and develop leadership skills to become future leaders in their communities.

More than 3.8 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 countries, with approximately 240,000 active members in the nation’s colleges comprise PTK. Learn more at ptk.org.
