Survey Responders Would Rather Reduce Stress Than Get Back Into The Gym, and 58% of People Have A New Year’s Eve Resolution To “Eat Healthier”

December 20, 2023 – New Year’s Eve resolutions are looking a little different this year, as a recent survey commissioned by Stop & Shop found. The survey, which more than 500 people across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey responded to looked at New Year’s Eve resolutions, traditions, and celebrations as folks usher in 2024.

The survey found that:

58% of respondents have a New Year’s resolution to eat healthier;

39% of respondents want to reduce stress while 27% want to get back into the gym;

49% of people will be purging all the junk food in their home;

46% will observe “Dry January” in 2024.

The survey also found that more than 51% of people still toast with champagne as the ball drops each year, and an overwhelming 66% will be hosting a small gathering at their home this year. And what will they be serving? Either pigs in a blanket (36%) or a cheese board (31%). Most also said that their first meal of 2024 will be leftovers from the night before (33%), rather than coffee (24%).

“The most surprising result to us was that people would rather reduce their stress levels than get back into the gym,” said Stop & Shop Registered Dietitian, Emily Hayes. “We are happy to see that people are prioritizing their mental health in 2024, knowing this helps support overall wellness.
