BERKELEY COLLEGE LAUNCHES BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN APPLIED MEDIA DEGREE PROGRAM
Curriculum Focuses on Traditional and Emerging Media
Berkeley College recently announced the launch of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Applied Media degree program, with concentrations in Digital and Social Media, and Social and Cultural Responsibility. The program, approved to be offered on-site at the New York City and Woodland Park campuses and online, prepares students to master the art of verbal, written, and visual communications to help shape the future of the ever-changing media industry.
“Berkeley College is proud to announce its Bachelor of Science in Applied Media degree program, which provides an innovative curriculum focused on the fast-changing media landscape,” said Patricia Greer, JD, Berkeley College Provost. “Graduates of this program will be well-prepared to work in public relations, marketing, social media, podcasting, and many other traditional and emerging media fields.”
The BS in Applied Media program includes coursework that reflects the state of the professional media world, teaching a comprehensive combination of skills that are in demand in an expanding number of industries. The program also incorporates concepts such as ethical, legal, and political issues, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of mass communication.
“In today’s world, adaptability and versatility are key,” said Jason Gulya, PhD, Professor, Applied Media, Berkeley College School of Professional Studies. “We’ve designed Berkeley College’s Applied Media program specifically to help students thrive in a world where they need to communicate their ideas clearly, interact with artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, and think about the social and moral implications of this new world. The courses in the Applied Media program are career-driven and future-bound. The program asks students to not only adapt to their new world. It empowers them to help shape that world.”
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Applied Media program will have opportunities for field trips, guest lectures, and other media-related events. Students may also have the chance to participate in an internship with a media-related organization or a job-related assignment for a valuable learning experience prior to graduation. The Berkeley College Career Services Department assists each student in pursuing internship opportunities that are best suited to their interests and abilities.
