Shavuot Celebration Brings Together Over 40 Young Families for a Day of Joy and Connection

More than 40 young families came together on a beautiful, sunny day to celebrate the holiday of Shavuot at a special gathering hosted at Abma’s Farm and Petting Zoo in Wyckoff. The event was part of the JCC of Northern NJ’s J on the Go initiative—programming specifically designed for families raising young Jewish children (from birth to age 8).
This collaborative holiday celebration brought together preschool families from Glen Rock Jewish Center, Temple Beth Rishon of Wyckoff, and Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley for a meaningful and joyful experience.
Children delighted in feeding the animals and exploring the farm, while parents enjoyed the opportunity to connect with one another. Each child received a goody bag filled with Shavuot-themed treats, ice cream stickers, and educational materials about the holiday, along with tasty kosher snacks provided by PJ Library.
PJ Library, a program that sends free Jewish books and music to children from birth through age 8, is made possible through the generous support of Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, JCC of Northern NJ, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
“Our family and community are so grateful to J on the Go and PJ Library for always creating opportunities to bring local Jewish families together. This was such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Shavuot!”
— Sophya, VP of Preschool, Temple Beth Rishon, Wyckoff
In today’s complex and often unsettling world, the organizers at JCC of Northern NJ expressed deep appreciation to the Wyckoff Police Department and to the Jewish Federation’s Community Security Team for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.
This event served as both a joyful celebration of Jewish tradition and a thoughtful way to take advantage of a “day off” from school with intentional holiday programming. It offered a moment of connection, tradition, and joy—at a time when uplifting experiences are more important than ever.
