Babson Men’s Swimming and Diving Sweeps NEWMAC Weekly Honors
MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— The Babson College men's swimming and diving team swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards when the conference announced the honors on Monday.
Sophomore Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) and junior David Krol (Grafton, Wis.) were named NEWMAC Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, and the group of sophomore Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.), first-year Mattias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.), Rhee, and senior Zachary Cheung (Monterey Park, Calif.) were tabbed as the NEWMAC Men's Relay Team of the Week.
Rhee put together a terrific meet on Saturday night against Bentley, winning a pair of individual events and helping Babson to two more first-place finishes in the relays. He won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:55.05 and 100 butterfly in 51.38 and was a part of victories in the 200 medley relay to start the meet and the 400 free relay to cap the Beavers’ win over the Falcons.
Krol made his season debut on Saturday night with a six-dive score of 259.60 points to win the 1-meter event in the Beavers’ victory over Bentley.
Babson’s 200-yard medley relay team of Ambelang, McFarlane, Rhee and Cheung finished first by more than two seconds with a time of 1:35.22 in the opening event of Saturday’s dual-meet victory over Bentley.
The Beavers will wrap up the first semester at the annual Fisher Invitational, and two-day event with morning trials and evening finals at Wheaton College this Friday and Saturday in Norton, Mass.
