Students Find Valuable Experience with “Poor Fellas”


PARAMUS, N.J. – Led by three student directors, the members of Bergen Community College’s Theatre Production Workshop class will present Marc Palmieri’s “Poor Fellas” this month in the Ender Hall Lab Theatre at the College’s main campus in Paramus (400 Paramus Road).

Students Mike Rovito, of West Milford, Joey Liberti, of Englewood, and Hector Hidalgo-Ramon, of Union City, have overseen all aspects of producing the six one-act plays that comprise the ensemble performance. The student directors, cast and stagehands not only created their own company as part of the project, but selected the show, built scenery and assembled costumes and props. Performances take place on Thursday, April 27, Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations are requested at tickets.bergen.edu. The company members of the Theatre Production Workshop are:

·      Ethan Benell, of Dumont, Actor, Co-Set Designer, Lighting Assistant, Scenic Artist;

·      James Dobak, of River Edge, Actor, Co-Props Coordinator, Production Assistant, Scenic Artist;

·      Ellie Escamilla, of Passaic, Actor, Co-Set Designer, Co-Props Coordinator, Costume Coordinator, Publicity, Scenic Artist;

·      Hector Hidalgo-Ramon, of Union City, Director, Actor, Scenic Artist;

·      Joseph Liberti, of Englewood, Director, Co-Props Coordinator, Publicity, Scenic Artist;

·      Jill Miller, of New Milford, Production Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Scenic Artist;

·      Evan Rivera, of Garfield, Actor, Co-Set Designer, Lighting Assistant, Scenic Artist;

·      Michael Rovito, of West Milford, Director, Scenic Artist; and

·      Luis Serrano, of Westwood, Actor, Co-Props Coordinator, Scenic Artist.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
