COUNTYWIDE OPEN HOUSE FOR SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM
Bergen County, NJ – Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III and the Board of Commissioners invite all residents age 60 and older to celebrate Bergen County’s Senior Nutrition Program, along with Older Americans Month, by visiting one of the County’s 23 Senior Activity Centers/Nutrition Sites for open houses at each location on Tuesday, May 16th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Bergen County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services have organized this countywide event, happening at each of the Senior Activity Centers below, which will feature a special luncheon, fun activities, and overview of what Senior Activity Centers offer.
“This is a great opportunity for seniors to visit a Senior Activity Center or Nutrition Center near them to explore what types of programs are offered from educational, fitness and more. Seniors can socialize with like-minded people and learn about various program offerings that may be of interest while receiving a free, healthy, and delicious meal at the same time,” said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco.
“Nutrition Services are also a link to other supportive in-home and community-based services such as homemaker and home-health aide services, transportation, physical activity and chronic disease self-management programs, home repair and modification, and falls prevention programs,” said Commissioner Chairman Thomas J. Sullivan. “We encourage all residents in their golden years to take advantage of county programming available to them.”
Transportation to any of the locations is available by calling Bergen County Division of Community Transportation at 201-368-5955 in advance.

Since 1972, the national Senior Nutrition Program has supported nutrition services for older adults across the country. Funded by the Older Americans Act (OAA), local programs offer healthy meals and other vital services to people age 60+, that strengthen their social connections and promote well-being. These critical programs promote nutrition services and help people stay independent as they age.
