Ace up their Sleeve: Poker Event Supports Bergen Vets

BERGENFIELD, N.J. – Even for those players who went bust at the annual Bergen Community College Veterans Committee Poker Tournament, their stack of chips went to a good cause.

In total, 54 players helped raise more than $3,200 for the College’s student veterans emergency fund, which assists former military members or reservists enrolled at the institution. The sold-out event took place Oct. 2 at the Bergenfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6467, which donated the space for the tournament.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
