Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey Offers Virtual Programming for New Members with Launch of Winter Wonderland @Home Series


Virtual Program to Take Place Across Five Sessions and Will Feature Activities, Crafts, and More

Riverdale, N.J. – January 11, 2022 – Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ), the preeminent leadership development organization for girls in Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Sussex and northern Warren counties announces the launch of Winter Wonderland @Home, a virtual activity series for girls grades K-5 who are new to Girl Scouts or who want to renew their membership. Serving as a virtual introduction to girls seeking to join a Girl Scout troop, Winter Wonderland @Home includes a wide range of virtual activities centered around topics such as Girl Scout traditions, cookie program education, and engaging winter crafts.

Winter Wonderland @Home kicks off on January 15, 2022, with a Drive-Thru Activity Box Pickup at the Riverdale Service Center located at 95 Newark Pompton Turnpike, from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Girls will receive an activity box of supplies to be utilized throughout their upcoming virtual meetings which will include a series of fun, hands-on activities designed to keep girls engaged and socially connected amid the current surge in COVID-19 cases, as well as a “Winter Fun patch” they will earn through completing the sessions. The virtual meetings will take place on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m., offering new Girl Scouts or those who want to renew their membership the chance to join at any time during the live sessions and participate in a range of exciting activities.

The five-session activity series will be concluded with a series-end celebration session complete with hot chocolate and treats, where the girls will be presented with a certificate of achievement. In addition, all Winter Wonderland @Home participants will be invited to a day of adventure at Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon, N.J. this coming spring.

The Winter Wonderland @Home series will take place on January 19 and 26, and February 2, 9, and 16 and includes the following activities:

Learning about Girl Scout traditions

Participating in the Girl Scout Cookie program and learning about entrepreneurship

STEM – Make a snowstorm in a jar, homemade snow and a snow measuring stick

End of series celebration including hot chocolate, treats, and a presentation of certificates

“Winter Wonderland @Home not only serves as a unique opportunity for those looking to join their very own Girl Scout troop, but offers an exciting array of fun, hands-on activities for young girls to engage with in the process. These virtual sessions, followed by our upcoming day of adventure at Lake Rickabear Camp in the spring, serve as the perfect introduction for girls into the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey community,” said Edwin Barreto, Interim Chief Executive Officer / Chief Financial Officer, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. “We can’t wait for our new Girl Scouts to experience all the fun this series has to offer in the coming weeks.”

Registration for Winter Wonderland @Home is $40. Additionally, the first 75 girls that register online will receive a Girl Scout swag bag filled with merchandise. Adult volunteers are also encouraged to be leaders, and the first 20 volunteers will receive a $20 gift card to help start their troop and a Girl Scout swag bag. Training, resources, and support are also provided.
