Renowned Organist to Perform at West Side Presbyterian Church
RIDGEWOOD—The 46th season of the West Side Concert Series continues with a performance by critically acclaimed organist Gordon Turk on Sunday, May 15 at 3:00 pm at West Side Presbyterian Church. The West Side Concert Series aims to bring people of all ages, cultures and opinions to a sacred place where music can heal the soul.
Turk has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He has played in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and other landmark concert halls in the U.S. Turk also has performed in the legendary Bolshoi Philharmonic in St. Petersburg, Russia, as well as in international organ festivals in Switzerland and Ukraine.
As resident organist of the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, N.J., Turk plays weekly recitals on the 12,000-pipe organ during the summer season. He is also organist and choirmaster of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Wayne, Pa., and professor of organ instruction at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.
The son of a Methodist minister in New Jersey, Turk began piano studies at age five and then organ when he was 10 years old. He graduated from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied piano and organ. Turk also studied with New York composer and organist McNeil Robinson at the Manhattan School of Music, earning a Masters Degree and Doctor of Musical Arts, both with honors.

The 2021-2022 season marks the 46th season of the West Side Concert Series. Throughout its long history, the series has presented a wide variety of solo, instrumental and ensemble concerts in the classical, African-American and jazz traditions.
