Earth Day Concert at West Side Presbyterian Church

RIDGEWOOD – Carla Auld and the UpTown Flutes will perform specially selected instrumental and choral works and readings in celebration of Earth Day at West Side Presbyterian Church on April 23 at 3:00 pm. The one-hour concert, which is free and open to the public, will include For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter and Il Gardellino by Antonio Vivaldi for flute and harpsichord.

Carla Auld’s performances as a solo flutist and chamber musician have been described as “entirely captivating and impressive” by audience goers. Garnering first place in the International Cosmo Buono International Flute Competition in 2010, Carla has gone on to present concertos and new ensemble works composed for the flute throughout the United States and abroad.

The award-winning virtuoso ensemble UpTown Flutes presents an ever-changing repertoire of music that makes full use of the rich tone colors of the flute family: piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute. The ensemble was formed in 1999 by Virginia Schulze-Johnson and made its professional debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2000. The group also features Elise Carter, Jenny Cline, Karen Demsey, Jeanne Fessenden, Patricia Lazzara, Lawrence Liggins, Alicia Lindsey, John McMurtery and Rebecca Vega.

Can’t make it in person? The concert will be livestreamed at www.westside.org/watch/concert-livestream/.
