BERGEN COUNTY DEDICATES NEW PUMPER TRAINING VEHICLE AT FIRE ACADEMY

MAHWAH, NJ – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, the Board of County Commissioners, and the Bergen County Department of Public Safety hosted a dedication ceremony today at the Bergen County Fire Academy to commemorate the County’s recent purchase of a new pumper truck. The truck will be used primarily in hands-on training activities at the newly upgraded Fire Academy in Mahwah.

County Executive Tedesco, a 40+ year volunteer firefighter, highlighted the importance of the investment during the ceremony, noting that the purchase reflects Bergen County’s continued commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness.

“This truck is more than just a piece of equipment — it’s a promise to our first responders that we will continue giving them the tools, training, and support they need to do their jobs and return home safely,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco. “As someone who’s spent decades in the fire service, I know how vital real-world training is. With this truck and our upgraded Fire Academy, we’re ensuring that Bergen County firefighters are prepared for whatever comes next.”

The new pumper truck will serve as a critical asset for training both new recruits and experienced firefighters, allowing for more realistic scenarios and greater operational readiness. The purchase is part of a broader effort by the Tedesco administration and the County Commissioners to modernize public safety infrastructure across Bergen County.

“This investment sends a clear message: Bergen County stands behind our first responders,” said County Commissioner Tom Sullivan. “With this new pumper truck and our upgraded Fire Academy, we’re making sure our firefighters have access to the best possible training and equipment. It’s about safety, preparedness, and giving our fire service professionals every advantage when it matters most.”
