Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey Announces Expanded Partnership with Morgan Stanley with New Event Series in Recognition of Financial Literacy Month

Financial Wellness Series Will Teach Girl Scouts Lifelong Financial Literacy Skills

Riverdale, N.J. (April 28, 2023) – Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ), the preeminent leadership development organization for girls in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and northern Warren counties, announces the launch of a Financial Wellness Series in partnership with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s Corporate & Institutional Solutions (CIS) division in recognition of Financial Literacy Month. The series includes several key initiatives and events designed to help promote financial literacy among Girl Scouts grades K-12 as well as educate adult members on potential career opportunities in the financial services field.

The Financial Wellness Series marks the continuation of a partnership between GSNNJ and Morgan Stanley Wealth Management which first began in 2021 when the investment bank and financial services company sponsored GSNNJ’s annual Women of Achievement Gala. Building on their partnership, in December 2021, the organizations rolled out a “Money Moves” virtual workshop designed to help children and teens learn about spending, saving, investing, and giving. The latest expansion of the partnership will offer unique programming for GSNNJ’s adult members as well as provide Girl Scouts with opportunities to work towards earning different financial literacy badges.

As part of the new Financial Wellness Series, Morgan Stanley will offer a career conversation geared towards GSNNJ’s 10,000 adult members. The virtual conversation will take place on May 24 and is meant to help women learn about potential career opportunities at Morgan Stanley, strengthen awareness of careers and potentially match talent from GSNNJ’s adult membership to career opportunities at Morgan Stanley.

On May 30, Morgan Stanley will also be leading a virtual financial literacy workshop for GSNNJ, where attending Girl Scouts will be receive a Morgan Stanley patch. The virtual workshop will teach Girl Scouts about spending, saving, investing, and giving and is designed to equip them with the knowledge and tools needed to better understand money. The program also is designed to help girls unlock their entrepreneurial potential providing them with tools and tactics they can utilize for the Girl Scout Cookie Program by exploring how to manage cookie sales and profits.

Additionally, as part of the partnership, 40 Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to visit the Morgan Stanley Westchester Branch Office in Purchase, N.Y. During the visit, Girl Scouts will participate in a finance workshop where they will discuss income, saving and spending as well as learn careers at Morgan Stanley. Following the event, Girl Scouts will earn their Morgan Stanley branded patch.

“Financial literacy helps girls set fiscal goals and gain the confidence they need to take control of their own future,” said Sandra A. Kenoff, President / CEO, GSNNJ. “Through our ongoing partnership with like-minded corporations like Morgan Stanley, we are expanding the impact and reach of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience while providing our Girl Scouts with valuable educational opportunities to develop money management skills early in life that will teach them how to increase their income, become responsible consumers, create a budget, build and manage credit, and save and invest for their futures.”

“The Financial Wellness Series is the latest in a series of initiatives our Corporate & Institutional Solutions division will collaborate with Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey on throughout the next several months to help Girl Scouts build important, lifelong financial literacy and business skills,” added Christyl Lucille Murray, Corporate and Institutional Solutions Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
