The Valley Hospital Once Again Earns an “A” for Patient Safety

RIDGEWOOD, NJ, May 3, 2023 – The Valley Hospital is proud to have been recognized with an “A” grade for patient safety for the 20th time following the release of The Leapfrog Group‘s Spring 2023 Hospital Safety Grade.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This national distinction celebrates Valley’s achievements in protecting hospital patients from preventable harm and errors.

“We are proud to have once again received an ‘A’ for patient safety,” said Audrey Meyers, President and CEO of Valley Health System. “This top grade is a result of Valley’s longstanding commitment to ensuring patient safety and providing high-quality care.”

Valley was one of the 35 hospitals in New Jersey, and part of the 29% of the 2,857 hospitals graded nationwide to receive an “A,” ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States.

The Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades – A, B, C, D, or F – to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent patient harm. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But The Valley Hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers, and clinicians who together made that possible.”
