Center for Hope & Safety to Host Annual Golf Classic at Edgewood Country Club on June 1 to Support Domestic Violence Victims and Survivors in Bergen County

Rochelle Park, N.J. (May 8, 2023) – Center for Hope & Safety (CHS), Bergen County’s only not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping adults and children rebuild their lives beyond domestic violence and abuse, will host its annual Golf Classic at Edgewood Country Club on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Proceeds from the event will support the life-saving programs and services provided by Center for Hope & Safety.

“Our annual Golf Classic is a key fundraiser that enables us to continue to help adults and children who have been impacted by domestic violence build a safer, healthier life,” said Julye Myner, PhD, Executive Director, Center for Hope & Safety. “Demand for our services has surged since the pandemic reaching our highest volumes of individuals served ever. Funds raised from the Golf Classic will go to providing vital support services to those in crisis including our 24/7 hotline, risk assessment and safe housing as well as programs for survivors including economic empowerment workshops, career counseling, legal services and therapy programs for adults and children. We want to thank everyone who has donated to CHS, sponsored our Golf Classic or has registered to participate. It's with your generosity that we can continue to help adults and children rebuild their lives beyond domestic violence.”

CHS has never, in its 46-year history, served more people than the organization is helping today. Ten years ago CHS averaged 900 clients a year. Today that number has increased by 91 percent with CHS serving 1,719 adults and children in 2022. Its free 24/7 hotline received 80% more calls than in 2021. The average number of weekly calls in 2021 was 57, which increased to 107 in 2022. Further demonstrating the continued severity and prevalence of domestic abuse in our communities, CHS saw an unprecedentedly high number of domestic violence survivors seek safety through its Safe House Program, sheltering 373 adults and children, representing a 108% increase from the 10-year average of 179.
