Stolen Car Arrest - Paramus


The Paramus Police Department announces the arrest of Juan Caba 18 yoa of Fort Washington, NY and Isaiah Rodriguez 18 yoa from New York, NY for receiving stolen property, eluding and resisting arrest.  Two juveniles were also arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

On Wednesday June 20, 2023 at approximately 1:40 am Paramus Police Officer Slavko Bajovic observed a blue Hyundai Elantra with a New Jersey registration travelling westbound on State Highway #4. Bajovic looked into the vehicles driver compartment as he drove by and observed the driver pull a ski mask over his face. A check of the vehicle’s registration showed that the vehicle was stolen from Lodi, NJ on June 20, 2023.

The stolen vehicle slowed down abruptly almost coming to a stop attempting to elude Officer Bajovic. A motor vehicle pursuit began on State Highway #4 west onto 208 North. The stolen vehicle exited Route 208 at Grandview avenue and struck a utility pole disabling the vehicle.

The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A foot pursuit by Officers Bajovic and back up Officer William Stallone occurred through multiple residential backyards, until they apprehended the driver. The driver later found to be a 16 year old male resisted arrest and refused to be handcuffed.

It was determined that 4 occupants were all travelling in the stolen vehicle. Officers from surrounding agencies responded to assist. A female Juvenile was taken into custody immediately by officers from Wyckoff. Sergeant Ryan Tenney, Wyckoff Police Department apprehended suspect Juan Caba on Hilltop Lane.

A few hours later Wyckoff Officers John Rafferty and Officer Joe Benanti observed the Isiah Rodriguez, the fourth suspect on Route 208 south. He was arrested without incident. 

All suspects were transported to Paramus Police Headquarters and charged with Receiving Stolen property 2C: 20-7a (3rd) degree, Eluding. 2C: 29-2B (3rd) degree and Resisting Arrest by Flight (4th) degree.

The juveniles were released to their guardian’s.

Defendant Isaiah Rodriguez released on his own recognizance pending court appearance on Friday, July 7th at the Bergen County Justice Center.

Defendant Juan Caba was charged and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance.
