Multinational Exhibition Celebrates Iranian Art

PARAMUS, N.J. – Gallery Bergen will partner with Bürgerhaus Glockenbachwerkstatt (Glockenbach Townhouse Workshop) in Munich, Germany for a multinational collaborative exhibition of Iranian artists this fall.

“The Cup Flows Over: Art from the Soul of Iran” features the work of prominent artists such as Berlin-based Parastou Forouhar, Iranian artists living in the U.S. and anonymous artists living in Iran. The German government estimates more than 304,000 individuals of Iranian descent live in the country, spurring curators Tim Blunk and Lima Vafadar to conceive the dual exhibition after meeting during a past collaboration in Germany.

Opening receptions will take place on Thursday, September 21 at 6 p.m. in Gallery Bergen (400 Paramus Road, Paramus, New Jersey) and on October 24 in Germany. The curators will also livestream the opening receptions and other events to bridge the international divide.

The dual exhibition focuses on the historic struggles of immigration and the diaspora experience. The artists make use of a variety of media including film, video, photography, fabric work and installation while invoking ancient Persian texts.

The exhibition will remain on view in Gallery Bergen through Tuesday, November 24. Visit gallery.bergen.edu or email tblunk@bergen.edu for more information and updated viewing hours.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst.
