Medical Volunteers Perform Life Changing Surgeries In Peru With Healing The Children New Jersey
Providing health and hope, one child at a time.
Tuesday, April 9, 2024 (Hawthorne, New Jersey) – Healing the Children New Jersey (HTCNJ), a New Jersey based nonprofit, will be sending a team of 21 medical volunteers to Arequipa, Peru April 13-20 on a pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgical mission.
Led by Dr. Sanjay Lalla, Dr. Randolph Wojcik, and Trip Administrator Ted Williams, the team is expecting to perform 40 corrective surgeries for cleft lip and cleft palate during the weeklong mission. Serving as a mobile hospital, the team travels with their own medical equipment and donated supplies. Through a partnership with Clinica Paz Holandesa, in Arequipa, Peru, the team will screen and perform surgeries on young children, many of whom have been waiting years for these life changing procedures.
The trip is sponsored by Healing the Children New Jersey, a nonprofit that provides free medical care and services to children in New Jersey and abroad. The medical team is made up of volunteers, many of whom travel at least once a year on medical mission trips with HTCNJ. The trip is not only life changing for the young patients, but life changing for the volunteers as well.
Registered nurse, Matthew Goetz, will be traveling with the team for his 3rd trip with HTCNJ. “My favorite part of these trips is the life changing impacts these surgeries provide and improving the quality of life for the children we care for. There isn’t a greater feeling than being part of a team comprised of selfless and loving professionals united to do good for others.”
