Bergen County Nonprofit Invites Community to Its Annual Walk-a-Thon This Weekend

New Concepts for Living will be hosting its annual Walk-a-Thon at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 at Wood Dale County Park, 100 Prospect Ave., Woodcliff Lake, N.J.

Registration for the family-friendly, music-filled event opens at 9 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m. The walk starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m., rain or shine. Walkers are welcome to run, trot or stroll the ½ mile loop as many times as they are able.

The walk is accessible for all.  Leashed and friendly dogs are welcome to participate, and light snacks, water and refreshments will be served. Sponsors include Inserra Shop Rite Supermarkets Inc., Provident Bank, Jarmel Kizel Architects & Engineers, Northern Valley Development & Management LLC, and Withum Advisory.

Funds raised from the event will support NCFL’s capital campaign for its new Aquatic Therapy Center set to open in Fall 2027 in its Achievement Center day program on Route 17 in Paramus. NCFL is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that provides community housing and day programs including therapeutic and 24/7 behavioral services for those living with intellectual and developmental disabilities ages 21 and older.

“We invite the community to come out and walk, wheel or stroll with us at this annual fundraiser that supports our programs for the I/DD community we serve,” said Sharon Smicea, NCFL Director of Development. “Every dollar raised this year will be allocated to our Aquatic Therapy Center which will allow our participants to improve strength, balance, mobility, communication, confidence and overall well-being through the healing power of water.”

Walk-a-thon attendees are invited to come on their own, create a team or join one of the already registered teams. Interested  participants can register in advance or at the event. The registration fee is $50 per adult and $30 per child and includes a T-shirt. Several levels of sponsorship also are available starting at $250 and up.
