Carjacking in Paramus, NJ


On Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at approximately 9:22 pm the Paramus Police Department responded to the Garden State Plaza shopping Mall, in the area of Door #10, which is located on the west side of the mall, for a carjacking.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victims , both 30 yoa, males from Jersey City. They reported that when they exited the mall they observed a male sitting on a light post stanchion near their vehicle. When they got to their 2020 Mercedes 4 door G-Wagon, the male ran over to them and produced a black handgun. The suspect demanded the keys to the car which the victims complied with. The suspect then fled with  the Mercedes. The suspect is described as a male black, thin build, approximately 6-3 in height, wearing a black sweat shirt and grey sweat pants. The suspect also had a black color face mask.

At this time the Paramus Police Department, assisted by the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force, has recovered the stolen Mercedes in Jersey City, NJ. The Paramus Police Department has also seized another vehicle that was involved in the carjacking. Detectives of the Paramus Police Department and State Auto Crime Task Force are currently investigating this incident.

The Paramus Police Department reminds area residents and shoppers to be aware of their surroundings when exiting and entering their vehicles and that suspicious activity should be reported to the police immediately.
