The Valley Hospital Earns National Recognition for Promoting Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation

RIDGEWOOD, NJ, February 19, 2024 – The Valley Hospital has earned national recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) DoNation Campaign for its efforts to increase organ, eye, and tissue donor registrations across the state.

The Valley Hospital coordinates its year-round outreach efforts by partnering with NJ Sharing Network, the nonprofit organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue in the Garden State.

DoNation is an initiative that unites HRSA and the organ donation community with workplaces across the nation in spreading the word about the importance of donation and increasing the number of registered organ, eye, and tissue donors. The DoNation Campaign challenges workplaces across all industries to educate their staff, visitors, and communities about the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donation, and to help individuals register as organ donors.

“We are honored to receive this award,” said David Rivera, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, Assistant Vice President of Medical/Surgical Services for The Valley Hospital. “At The Valley Hospital, we are committed to sharing the importance of organ donation with the community and offering resources and education on the impact these donations can have on others in need.”

The 2023 DoNation Campaign added 8,840 registrations to state registries, including registrations from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Since its inception in 2011, campaign partners completed 639,105 registrations and united donation advocates with representatives from their local organ procurement organizations, Donate Life America affiliates, and state and regional hospital associations.

“They Valley Hospital and all of our hospital partners are vital to our lifesaving mission,” said Alyssa D’Addio, Vice President of Hospital and Community Services, NJ Sharing Network. “We have been fortunate to work with The Valley Hospital’s dedicated team members. They are great advocates and have shown passion and energy in educating others about the power of donation and transplantation.”

According to United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), there are over 100,000 Americans – nearly 4,000 of whom live in New Jersey – waiting for a life-saving transplant.
