ENHANCING THE SOUTH AMBOY FERRY EXPERIENCE

NY Waterway South Amboy boats have upgraded interiors, reduced emissions and use less fuel
March 11, 2024 - SOUTH AMBOY, NJ — NY Waterway is pleased to announce that its South Amboy ferry service, launched in the Fall of 2023, has been enhanced by two of the most modern and environmentally-friendly boats in its fleet.

“South Amboy riders are the beneficiaries of a major ferry retrofit that dramatically cuts emissions and boosts the passenger experience,” said NY Waterway CEO Armand Pohan.

“We hope they ride NY Waterway with pride, knowing they‘ve found a clean, sustainable way to commute in warmth and comfort.”

The two ferries, the Congressman Robert A. Roe and the Hoboken, have been refitted with new engines and greater passenger capacity, while using 25 percent less fuel and emitting 80 percent less NOx engine exhaust.

The ferries were upgraded under a program made possible by NJ TRANSIT through a $12-million grant from the Federal Transportation Administration.

The Congressman Robert A. Roe and the Hoboken were recently put into NY Waterway’s South Amboy ferry service.
