Bergen HR Professional Dubbed a “Rockstar”

PARAMUS, N.J. – The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) has honored Bergen Community College Talent Development Manager Michael Vivenzio with the National Higher Education HR Rockstar Award. Recognizing an early-career professional who has made a significant impact in higher education human resources, Vivenzio will receive his award at a July ceremony sponsored by CUPA-HR.

“Michael displays a profound passion for higher education HR through his proactive engagement in various aspects of the college landscape,” Bergen Associate Director of Employee Relations and Organizational Development Ellianne Gallardo said in Vivenzio’s nomination application. “His commitment is evident in his consistent efforts to learn about other departments and his roles within higher education.”

Vivenzio, of Lyndhurst, joined the College in 2022 after more than a decade with Huntington Learning Center as a managing director, assistant director of training and center director. He graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

“As a community member in Bergen County for the last 30 years, the recognition means a lot to me,” Vivenzio said. “Switching gears in my career to HR was scary at first but my fantastic team has done so much to ease my transition into this new chapter. Every job I have ever had, I have always tried my best to give my all but it means even more to me to receive this award knowing that my efforts benefit not only the staff of the College but the future of the county I call home.”

At Bergen, Vivenzio has received accolades for his work in building relationships during a period of institutional renewal at the College. He has implemented innovative training approaches for new managers and embraced data-informed decision-making to drive improvements in the institution’s performance review and compensation-model processes. Vivenzio has also become the “voice of Bergen Bulldog athletics,” volunteering his time to serve as the energetic public address announcer for various athletic teams.
