Valley Health System Announces Suneet Mittal, MD, as Chair of the Cardiovascular Service Line for Valley Health System


RIDGEWOOD, NJ, January 15, 2024 – Valley Health System has announced the promotion of Suneet Mittal, MD, to the position of Chair of the Cardiovascular Service Line for Valley Health System. In his new role, Dr. Mittal will oversee the operations of cardiovascular care offered through Valley Medical Group and The Valley Hospital.

Dr. Mittal will also continue to serve as the Director of Electrophysiology for The Valley Hospital, Medical Director of The Snyder Center for Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation at The Valley Hospital, and Director of Cardiac Research for Valley Health System.

Gerald Sotsky, MD, the former Chair, will serve as the Associate Chair of Cardiac Services for Valley Medical Group.

Dr. Mittal is board certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. In addition, Dr. Mittal holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

Dr. Mittal’s active research interests include the evaluation and management of patients with atrial fibrillation, the evaluation and management of patients with unexplained syncope (fainting), the role of implantable monitors in patients with known or suspected arrhythmias, and overcoming barriers to remote patient monitoring.

He is a former member of the Heart Rhythm Society’s Board of Trustees. He is currently an Associate Editor of Cardiovascular Digital Health Journal and an editorial board member of Circulation: Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Clinical Electrophysiology, Heart Rhythm, Heart Rhythm O2, and Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology.

As an active researcher, Dr. Mittal serves as the principal investigator of several notable cardiac clinical trials leading research efforts to improve patient outcomes in the field of cardiac care. As a thought leader, he has published numerous publications and peer reviews in many high-impact journals. Dr. Mittal also sits on multiple industry advisory boards. 

Dr. Mittal earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees from Boston University, in Boston, Massachusetts, as part of a combined six-year BA/MD program. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, before completing an additional fellowship in Electrophysiology at New York Hospital – Weill Cornell University Medical Center.
