COMMISSIONERS APPROVE 2023 OPEN SPACE TRUST FUND GRANTS


(Hackensack, N.J.) – Bergen County officials voted unanimously on Wednesday, December 13th to approve the list of projects recommended for funding by the Bergen County Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, Farmland, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund Advisory Committee. Among the 58 grants totaling over $11.5 million, 51 will support municipal and county park improvements, two will support municipal open space acquisitions, and five will fund  historic preservation efforts.

Tree Time: $250k Planting Grant Promotes Sustainability


PARAMUS, N.J – Bergen Community College has secured a $250,000 state grant to renew its main campus tree population decimated by a changing climate, disease and invasive insects. The College secured the grant through the “Trees for Schools” program administered through the Sustainability Institute at the College of the New Jersey and funded by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

Auto Dealers Launch Winter Coat Drive to Keep New York Kids Warm

As the temperature drops and winter approaches, many families in the metro New York area are facing the harsh reality of struggling to stay warm. Recognizing this pressing issue, the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA) has kicked off its annual Winter Coat Drive for Kids. The drive aims to purchase and distribute new winter coats for children in need, ensuring that every child can experience warmth and comfort during the cold season. The Winter Coat Drive aims to raise over $100,000 to purchase new coats for kids this winter.

RIDGEFIELD EQUESTRIAN WINS GOLD IN NJ SPECIAL OLYMPICS


(Leonia, NJ - December 11, 2023) - Local equestrian Paul Lim made history as the first participant and winner in the New Jersey Special Olympics to come from the Bergen Equestrian Center. Paul was able to clinch gold in both Class 10 Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation and Class 25 Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter Dressage. Paul’s journey, marked by an autism diagnosis and overcoming adversities, sheds light on the transformative influence of horses and the Bergen Equestrian Center on his life.

Bergen County And Bergen Community College Form Partnership To Enrich Veterinary Technology Education


TETERBORO, NJ – The Bergen County Board of Commissioners and County Executive Jim Tedesco are excited to announce a new innovative partnership between Bergen Community College (BCC) and the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.  BCC’s Veterinary Technology Program students will now have the opportunity to gain hands-on externships at the Bergen County Animal Shelter, providing care for the animals before they find a forever home.
